Taxotere Lawsuits

Mass Tort & Defective Drug Attorney

Taxotere, a popular chemotherapy drug used throughout the United States, has been linked to permanent and potentially-disfiguring hair loss in women who used it while undergoing breast cancer treatment. The manufacturer of Taxotere, Sanofi-Aventis, has been accused of hiding test results that indicated the drug could or would cause hair loss in users. Multiple lawsuits are in the works against this drug manufacturer.

If you have taken Taxotere and suffered irreversible hair loss, you likely have a valid case against Sanofi-Aventis. Talk to Dean Law Firm to learn if you should create a defective drug lawsuit of your own, or opt into a preexisting mass tort claim. Our office is based in West Texas but our injury attorney helps clients from coast-to-coast.

Grounds for Taxotere Lawsuits

According to internal research conducted by Sanofi-Aventis, 10% of women in their study groups suffered permanent or near-permanent hair loss after using Taxotere. In one clinical study, 15% of women developed alopecia – or baldness in areas that should grow hair – despite having little or no alopecia history in their families. This information was not included in any articles or studies published publically in the United States, suggesting that the manufacturer knew it would hurt their sales numbers.

Some of the most common claims cited in Taxotere lawsuits are:

  • Drug was sold without complete testing.
  • Drug was never determined safe for regular use.
  • Drug was sold without disclosing all risks and side effects.
  • Healthcare providers and patients not provided adequate warning.
  • Public advertising was misleading.
  • Information was intentionally hidden from the public.

Compensation for Reduced Quality of Life

Women filing lawsuits against Sanofi-Aventis report feeling a significant decrease in their overall quality of life. Even after the alopecia was identified, treatments could do little to correct the clumpy, stringy, or completely absent patches of hair. With destroyed self-images, many women found it difficult to continue with their day-to-day lives. For others, the hair loss was a constant reminder of their fight with breast cancer, understandably harming their emotions and mental wellbeing.

When an injury case does not involve direct physical harm, the compensation will often come in two forms:

  1. Nominal: Monies paid to plaintiffs who have suffered emotionally due to another party’s wrongdoing, hopefully helping them find peace of mind again.
  2. Punitive: Court ordered payment to plaintiffs to penalize the defendant for wrongdoing; often reserved for cases involving criminal acts but can be used in any injury case, at the judge’s discretion.

Defend Your Rights & Self-Esteem

Taxotere’s unreported side effects can cause considerable harm to a user’s confidence and quality of life. The drug manufacturer Sanofi-Aventis should be held accountable for the undue hardship they put numerous women through due to their disregard for proper information disclosure procedures.
