Study Shows Texas Intersections Most Dangerous in Country

There are few driving behaviors more dangerous than running through a red-light at a stopped intersection. Many car accidents caused by a motorist trying to cut through an intersection against the light are either head-on crashes with opposing traffic or devastating T-Bone accidents. In either scenario, the chances of someone suffering catastrophic or fatal injuries is high.

The National Coalition for Safer Roads (NCSR) was interested in seeing which cities in the country fared the worst when it came to negligent drivers blasting through red-lights. By using data collected from safety organizations and police records, and even information used by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, they hoped to pinpoint extremely dangerous intersections and bring them to the attention of the public and local governments.

Unfortunately for anyone living in Texas, the list of the top 10 most dangerous cities is not good news. Peaking at the top of the list is Houston, and Dallas is sitting at “unlucky” number 7. Between the years 2004 and 2013, there were a reported 181 fatalities at intersections in Houston caused by someone running a red-light; this number does not even include all car accident fatalities within the city limits.

Hopefully the NCSR’s awareness campaigns will help reduce dangerous driving within the country, especially in Texas. In the meantime, as always, drive responsibly and defensively. Do not speed, drink and drive, or text and drive. And if you have been hit by a driver, you can let our Midland car accident attorney from Dean Law Firm know in a free case evaluation. There may be a chance for you to win compensation from the liable party, especially if it can be shown that they ran a red. Call (432) 214-8125 for more information.
