DePuy/Stryker Hip Implant Recalls
Texas Mass Tort Attorney – (432) 214-8125
Two hip implant replacement systems manufactured by Stryker Corporation
– the Rejuvenate Modular and the ABG II – and another two
made by DePuy Orthopaedics – the ASR Hip Resurfacing System and
the ASR XL Acetabular System – have all been globally recalled in
recent years due to the catastrophic and unreasonable damage they cause
to patients who have undergone surgery to have them implanted. Both recalls
have come about only after patients began complaining of serious complications,
not due to either company’s own initiatives.
If you are experiencing any of the following symptoms and have a DePuy
or Stryker hip implant, the medical device could be to blame:
- Difficulty walking
- Swelling in the hips or abdomen
- Chronic hip pain
- Severe, unexplained illness
The recall does not excuse either corporation from the consequences that
their defective and unsafe medical devices have caused. The recall also
does not guarantee that all patients have gone through additional surgeries
to remove and replace the implants. If you are suffering after a DePuy
or Stryker hip implant was used to correct an original set of symptoms,
you may be able to sue them for compensation.

Why Some Hip Implants are So Dangerous
All four of the recalled hip replacement systems relied on some form of
metal-on-metal contact, either through a mock ball-and-socket hip joint
or through different metal coatings layered on top or against one another.
Any time metal is in direct contact with metal, especially in an implanted
medical device, there should be at least two expected and negative consequences.
Metallosis: As one metal rubs and strains against another metal, small flakes will
inevitably chip off either surface. When this occurs within the human
body, such as due to a defective hip implant, the patient suffers metallosis,
or a strong, persistent poisoning caused by metal fibers embedded in soft
tissue. If untreated, metallosis could leave to prolonged suffering or
Dislocation: Metal-on-metal joints of any kind are prone to loosening and shifting over
time. If a DePuy or Stryker hip implant dislocates itself through regular
use and mobility, it can cause extreme pain, internalized bone fractures,
and a complete inability to walk.
The dangers inherent in both company’s hip implant system designs
suggest that they did not understand how hazardous their products could
be. In the worst case scenario, they were aware of the dangers and proceeded
to market the items anyway. Either way, serious negligence on part of
their researchers and developers has caused thousands of individuals around
the world to experience dangerous complications.
Pursue Compensation for Your Undue Pain and Suffering
It is important that everyone do their part to hold large corporations
accountable for the wrongdoing they have done. If the individual consumer
does not speak up and stand up for their rights, the same harm may be
allowed to happen again to others. Dean Law Firm and our Texas mass tort
attorney can help you seek justice after a DePuy or Stryker hip implant
has caused you to suffer dangerous and inexcusable complications.
